ROCHESTER, Minn.- Captain Kelly Hanton says Rochester's Salvation Army is hopeful about it's Angel Tree program this year thanks to a viral trend of influencers promoting the tradition nationwide on TikTok.
Hanton says the program allows shoppers at Walmart and Scheels to take a tag off of a Christmas tree at the store that is assigned to a specific age range and gender of the children eligible for the program and buy a Christmas gift that could match their interests to help support families that might not be able to buy a toy themselves.
Hanton says each family registered with the program will then be able to pick out one of those gifts from among thousands at its Salvation Army Corps Community Center from Dec. 17 through Dec. 18 as part of its Toy and Joy event.
