SARASOTA, Fla. ( WWSB ) - A Sarasota couple recovered a $5,000 engagement ring from Gulf waters after it fell overboard while they were checking stone crab traps at Point of Rocks.

Cassie Yammine said her engagement ring slipped off her finger last week, one day before Thanksgiving, while she and her husband Brandon were on the water.

“Because my ring like went off really fast like faster than normal and dropped right into the water,” Cassie Yammine said.

The couple, married for just over a year, knew finding the ring would be difficult.

“Yeah, honestly it was tragic. I cried for like four hours... I immediately jumped in the water with my clothes on and so did Brandon,” Cassie Yammine said.

After the initial shock, Cassie Yammine turned to social media for assistance.
