PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes took aim at Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne on Tuesday, considering legal action over alleged ESA voucher fraud.
“We are categorizing this as a public monies’ investigation. No public official is allowed to permit taxpayer dollars to be misspent,” said Mayes.
She said she’s investigating and is considering filing a lawsuit over the ESA voucher program , claiming fraud. Horne denied that his department is doing anything wrong.
“We’ve had a very vigorous program to prevent fraud and here the attorney general pipes off with her imagination talking about alleged waste,” said Horne.
The ESA program helps reimburse parents’ education costs. If a parent requests more than $2,000, that amount must be audited fir
