An 8-year-old girl is dead and another person was injured following a head-on collision on Lens Creek Road (W.Va. 94) near Hernshaw.

According to the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office, the girl, whose name has not been released, was ejected from an SUV driven by her mother after it collided with a utility truck shortly before 4:55 p.m. on Tuesday.

A passerby immediately stopped and performed CPR on the girl until emergency medical personal arrived at the scene. Despite efforts by the passerby and the first responders, the girl died.

The driver of the utility truck, which overturned on its side during the collision, was transported by ambulance to a Charleston hospital for evaluation and treatment. The condition of the girl's mother was not released.
