CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department hosted its annual Victim Services Tree Lighting Ceremony Tuesday night, bringing together families who have lost loved ones to violence and traffic deaths.
The ceremony featured slides showing faces of victims lost to deadly crashes and acts of violence, providing a space for families to gather with others experiencing similar grief during the holiday season.
“My son is Marcus Sherrod Mosley. He was murdered on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020,” said Tina Sykes-Mosley, mother of Marcus Mosley.
Henry Wheeler has experienced multiple losses.
“I lost my brother in 2017. It was October 30,” Wheeler said. “My grandson was murdered on Beatties Ford Road. It was October 24, 2024.”
