What felt like only weeks ago, the UK was basking in the late-summer sunshine. Now, skies are grey and daylight fades by 4pm - and everyone seems to know someone struck down by an awful cold.

Cold and flu season has hit hard this year. Public transport is filled with coughing and sneezing commuters, and avoiding winter illnesses feels increasingly futile.

Health chiefs are urging the usual precautions: stay at home if you're unwell, wash your hands regularly, and maybe consider wearing a mask. This year, with flu season starting 'unusually' early, the NHS has issued a 'flu jab SOS' to those still unvaccinated.
