Police in Mount Dora are warning folks about a scam targeting would-be festival and event vendors.

The Department put out a warning on social media this week. Saying scammers are creating fake posters for real events in the city and soliciting vendors, scamming them out of the money they pay to be a part of it.

Rachael O'Ryan, president of the Mount Dora Area Chamber of Commerce, said she started noticing the fake posters in October and worked to get the word out.

"I didn't know it had gone any further," she said.

That is, until she started getting phone calls from folks who thought they paid to be vendors for events, including this Friday's Christmas walk.

"Right now I've gotten three, and it all started on Monday, and today is only Tuesday," she said.
