The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) bypoll results were announced on Tuesday, revealing that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 7 out of the 12 contested seats. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won 3 seats, while the Congress and the All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) each claimed 1 seat. With this outcome, the BJP now holds 122 seats in the 250-member MCD, just four short of a majority. AAP has 102 seats, Congress has 9, and AIFB has 1. The Indraprastha Vikas Party (IVP), which did not participate in these bypolls, maintains 16 councillors.

A significant upset for AAP occurred in the Chandni Mahal seat, which it had previously won by a large margin in the 2022 elections. This time, AAP finished third, with Mohammad Imran of AIFB winning by 4,592 votes. Imran was supported by former AAP leader Shoaib Iqbal, who campaigned actively after leaving AAP. The seat became vacant when AAP's Aaley Iqbal Mohammad won the Matia Mahal Assembly seat earlier this year.

The BJP, which previously held 9 of the 12 seats, faced setbacks in Sangam Vihar-A and Mundka, attributed to local dissatisfaction with BJP MLAs. In Sangam Vihar-A, Congress candidate Suresh Chaudhary won by 3,268 votes, while AAP took the Mundka seat amid discontent over BJP MLA Gajendra Daral. AAP also won in Naraina, campaigning against the BJP's choice of an "outsider" candidate.

BJP candidate Anita Jain achieved the largest victory margin in the bypolls, winning Shalimar Bagh-B by 10,101 votes. This seat was previously held by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who resigned after winning the Assembly polls. Other BJP winners included Manisha Devi in Dwarka B, Sarla Choudhry in Vinod Nagar, and Anjum Mandal in Greater Kailash.

The voter turnout for the bypolls was recorded at 38.51%, significantly lower than the 50.47% in the 2022 MCD elections. The counting process was conducted under strict security measures, with 10 counting centres established across the city. The results reflect a shifting political landscape ahead of the upcoming mayoral elections in April 2025, following the defection of 16 AAP councillors to form the IVP, which has given the BJP a crucial advantage in the MCD.
