LINDSAY, Texas — A North Texas family is asking for answers after one of their bison was found dead and decapitated on their ranch last week in what investigators call a disturbing case of animal cruelty.
What is normally a peaceful setting at the Neu family’s bison ranch in Lindsay changed last Wednesday when Shawn Neu noticed a strong smell near his fence line located near County Road 301 and FM 3108 south of Lindsay.
“I could smell something dead, and I told my wife we needed to go check the fence line. Something was wrong,” Neu said.
The Cooke County Sheriff’s Office said the killing happened sometime between Sunday and Wednesday. Investigators said someone shot and killed the bison, entered the property, removed its head and took off with it— leaving behind the carcass.
