Bristol Rovers progressed into the last 16 of the Vertu Trophy with a penalty shootout victory against Cambridge United . The Gas squandered a 2-0 lead in normal time, before Luke Southwood saved two penalties in the shootout to secure Rovers’ spot in the next round.

Ellis Harrison scored a first-half brace for the Gas, continuing his impressive form since returning from injury a couple of weeks ago. He was one of three half-time substitutions, though, which led to an onslaught from the visitors, with strikes from Kelland Watts and Sullay Kaikai sending the game to penalties.
