Against the spread

I’m riding with Alabama on Wednesday. The line keeps shifting their way, and honestly, I get it. Clemson is on a nice 4-game streak, but they’ve been cutting it close against teams like the Georgia Bulldogs and West Virginia Mountaineers. They want to slow this game way down to have a shot — because if this turns into a track meet, they’re in trouble.

Alabama just isn’t the type of team you can grind out for 40 minutes. They’re scoring almost 96 points per game, just hung 105 and 115 in back-to-back outings, and they’re shooting 50% from the field. Clemson’s defense is solid, but keeping up with that kind of pace is a different story. And when Alabama is moving the ball like they did last game — 29 assists, their most ever under coach Nate Oats — it’s a long night for whoever’s on the other bench.

Plus, the Tide have covered 3 of their last 4, and they’re built to run teams off the floor in Tuscaloosa. Philon, Holloway, G Houston Mallette — they just keep coming in waves. Clemson might hang around early, but I don’t see them keeping Alabama in check for the full game.

I’m taking the Over here, even with Clemson’s defense being what it is. Alabama is going to push tempo from the jump, and Clemson usually ends up playing faster than they want in matchups like this.
