The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will soon charge travelers a $45 fee to fly without a REAL ID.
Those who plan to fly can pay $45 to use TSA Confirm.ID, which is valid for a 10-day period.
The TSA will begin this system for travelers without an acceptable form of ID on February 1, 2026. The administration still asks everyone who wants to fly to update their ID when possible.
TSA's Confirm.ID process will differ at each airport. The TSA plans to offer an online payment option prior to arriving at the airport.
More than 94% of passengers already use a REAL ID or other acceptable form of identification, according to the TSA. But if you do not have one, you can also expect increased wait times at airports.
