The financial backer behind the residential developer of Kiawah Island has teed up another high-profile getaway keying off the proverbial good walk spoiled.
South Street Partners , with offices in downtown Charleston and in Charlotte, announced that it formed a joint venture to buy the Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa next door to the longtime home of the PGA ’s famed Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
The sale price was reported to be about $148 million.
The 66-acre Marriott is the inaugural purchase for a newly launched South Street investor fund. The property includes 351 hotel rooms, 163 villas, a large spa and workout center, nine food-and-beverage outlets, 114,000 square feet of meeting space and an oceanfront beach club with 700 members.
