Menopause – what do we know about it?
Menopause is a topic women don’t always feel comfortable talking about. I was lucky, I guess, in that due to surgery in my early 40s I never really went through most of the symptoms of menopause – no hot flashes, no night sweats.
But recently a friend sent me the text from a blog, “Lifestyles and Pop Culture,” which is written by a woman named Jen Hatmaker. This particular blog was entitled “Menopausal Orcas and the Audacity of Living.”
In the blog, Hatmaker suggests that for some time scientists have been baffled by female orcas who are one of the few species in nature who go through menopause around the middle of their lifespan, stop producing babies and then, “just keep … living – for decades.” Apparently this is unusual for most species of mamma
