A filly was sold for an eye-watering £5 million at auction on Tuesday night to exceed her trainer’s ‘wildest dreams’. The world-leading price was achieved during another record-breaking day at Tattersalls in Newmarket where 11 lots were sold for a million guineas or more as the December Mares Sale saw turnover reach £60m, the highest grossing day in European auction history.
