Star freshman Darryn Peterson will sit out his seventh straight game on Tuesday when No. 21 Kansas hosts No. 5 UConn in Lawrence, Kan.
Peterson has been sidelined by a lingering hamstring injury, however head coach Bill Self acknowledged that the guard isn't too far removed from returning to the court.
"Darryn is not going to play tonight," Self said. "He is very close. He has worked his butt off, but he is still not 100 percent. He is day-to-day."
A potential top overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, Peterson was the Naismith High School Player of the Year winner last season as well as a McDonald's All-American. He scored 21 points in his college debut against Green Bay on Nov. 3 and added 22 in a loss at North Carolina four days later.
