Thirty years ago this week, the Holyoke High School football team rode the legs of senior tailback Cedric Washington to a resounding victory over Greenfield in the 1995 Western Massachusetts Division I Super Bowl at Springfield College.
Washington’s historic career with the Purple Knights was capped with that 47-16 victory, as he rushed for a whopping 352 yards on 45 carries and five total touchdowns in the Super Bowl. That output had him atop the Massachusetts all-time rushing list, as he set the career record with 6,688 yards.
