Giving during the holiday season is often synonymous with handing out sweets and treats to coworkers and family members. Like anyone else, I of course appreciate these treats and gifts, however as a Type II Diabetic, these gifts are no good for me.

I’m no saint – I’ll always try a cookie, caramel popcorn, or Christmas bark that is gifted to me, but I know that I shouldn’t. This holiday season, let’s take other’s restrictions into account, and not waste time on gifts that can't and won't be eaten.

There are numerous reasons why a person may not eat sweets; they may be a diabetic like myself, or they could be dairy-free, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or may have allergies to common ingredients, such as nuts or eggs.
