NORTH PROVIDENCE – Jake Bissaillon is a regular at the town’s Shaw’s location off Smithfield Road, but despite that frequent flier status, he said he had no clue about the store’s Giving Back Where it Counts program supporting local nonprofits with each purchase of a reusable bag.

For November, the organization Bissaillon serves as CEO of, Justice Assistance, was chosen as the beneficiary of the program at the local Shaw’s. He said he was genuinely surprised to learn this, and felt other readers “might appreciate knowing that this small, straightforward act can meaningfully support Rhode Island nonprofits all year long.”

This experience, he said, captured the spirit of giving back in a simple but powerful way, and he hadn’t known it existed in his own backyard until recently.
