Following a disappointing 6-6 season, Chris Klieman is set to hang it up at Kansas State.
As was first reported by The Manhattan Mercury, the seventh-year coach is set to retire following the conclusion of the 2025 season. It seems the Wildcats are also set to move quickly to find his replacement, with Texas A&M offensive coordinator and former Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein taking over.
According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, no official deal with Klein is in place, but he has reportedly discussed a transition with the Aggies. Klein intends to continue coaching the team through the College Football Playoff.
Klieman, who previously won four FCS national championships in five years at North Dakota State, has been the head coach at Kansas State since 2019 and has won nine or more games three times. The highlight of the 58-year-old's tenure was a 10-4 campaign in 2022 in which the Wildcats won the Big 12.
Klein, who is just 36, began his coaching career at his alma mater as a graduate assistant and defensive quality control coach. After spending one season as the quarterbacks coach at Northern Iowa, he returned to Kansas State in 2017 and ultimately became the Wildcats' play-caller under Kleiman in 2022 and 2023 before joining Mike Elko's Texas A&M staff last season.
