A Toronto city councillor is asking Premier Doug Ford to let residents ride the Finch West LRT for free on its opening day, saying they’ve “endured seven years of construction hell” for the long-awaited transit line.

In an open letter to the premier Wednesday, Coun. Anthony Perruzza (Ward 7, Humber River—Black Creek) said his community is grateful for the province’s investment in the 18-stop LRT, which will run for about 10-kilometres between Finch West station and Humber Polytechnic, and cross through his ward. The $3.5-billion project is expected to deliver higher-order transit to an underserved area of the city, and the TTC announced last week the line will open Sunday, Dec. 7 with limited service.
