Gov. Maura Healey said Wednesday that the state will move quickly to distribute shutdown-delayed heating assistance money from the federal government now that the Trump administration has released the funding.
The state is set to receive $146 million in funding for the Low Income Heating Assistance Program, often referred to as LIHEAP, with an additional $220,591 earmarked for the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, U.S. Sen. Ed Markey’s, D-Mass., office said in a statement.
Last month, Healey, a Democrat, called on the Republican White House to speed the release of the money as temperatures started to dip. The cash was expected to go out at the beginning of November, but was delayed by the shutdown snarl.
