SPRINGFIELD — A local developer is planning to tear down a used-car lot, auto repair shop and single-family home to build a 21-apartment building in Indian Orchard.
Michael Serricchio, owner of Hedge Hog Industries, revealed plans last week to build the complex on a 1.2-acre triangle-shaped parcel that sits at Berkshire Avenue and Cottage Street.
The proposal calls for a three-story building. While the majority of housing developers in the city have been building complexes with smaller apartments , this one will have 11 three-bedroom and 10 two-bedroom units, said Robert Levesque, Serricchio’s engineer.
The developer also previously was granted a zoning variance, since one of the parcels at 824 Berkshire Ave. was designated commercial.
