Following the lackluster performance of Terminator: Dark Fate in 2019, the future of the sci-fi franchise has been uncertain, but Cameron revealed last year that he had started writing a new installment.

Cameron has since revealed that he has faced challenges during the writing process due to rapid advancements in AI, but he now tells Io9 that Terminator 7 is about to receive his full attention .
