Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown is promising to permanently scrap a $300 license application fee for landlords registering under the city’s mandatory residential rental licensing (RRL) program.
The RRL currently requires landlords with four or less residential rental units in electoral wards 1,3, 4, 5 and 7 to apply for a special license and register their units with the city.
Council voted unanimously to accept a staff report and recommendations at its Nov. 26 general committee meeting, to phase-in an expansion of the program to wards 2 and 8, followed by the city’s remaining three wards starting in 2026.
The two-year RRL pilot program was initially scheduled to run up until Dec. 31 of this year, but council extended it through the end of 2028 earlier this year.
