UPDATE: The Tennessee Corrections Institute has officially decertified the current Meigs County Jail, according to Chief Deputy Brian Malone.

The loss in certification has been attributed to an overcrowding problem that TCI said cannot be fixed by the repairs county commissioners approved Tuesday night. Close

The jail would be forced to put beds in already-filled cells or send their prisoners to nearby institutions.

TDOC inmates will now have to be moved out.
