The Transportation Security Administration will charge $45 to air passengers who don’t present a REAL ID or acceptable form of ID beginning Feb. 1, 2026.
Travelers who do not present a compliant ID will be referred to TSA Confirm.ID, an alternative identity verification system, according to a TSA news release . The $45 fee will allow travelers to use TSA Confirm.ID for a 10-day travel period.
The optional fee will be charged to passengers “who do not present an acceptable form of ID and still want to fly,” TSA said in the release. TSA said the process will differ across U.S. airports, but the agency is working towards making online pre-payment an option for travelers before they arrive at the airport.
