LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Students at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School stuffed an ambulance full of toys Wednesday morning as part of their annual Christmas drive for pediatric patients.

More than 350 toys were loaded into the ambulance and will be delivered to dozens of patients at Golisano Children’s at UK.

The toy drive began 18 years ago to honor two students who died in separate car crashes. Jesse Higginbotham died on his way to class at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in 2007. Just over a year later, the school lost another classmate in a car crash, Hannah Landers.

“The kids wanted to embody Jesse and Hannah’s spirit, who passed away a year later, and what it is that they wanted to do which was always ‘Hey, how can we help?’ ‘What can we do?’” said Wendy Turner, a teacher at Paul L
