CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — A 28-year-old Summerville man who prosecutors say has multiple felony convictions has been sentenced in connection with a shootout that severely injured a bystander.
Gordon “Rudy” Connell will spend 10 years in federal prison after being convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm, U.S. Attorney’s Office spokesperson Veronica Hill said.
Connell’s numerous felony convictions include charges involving illegally possessing firearms, including sawed-off shotguns; theft and violent assaults, Hill said.
Since he turned 18, he has been arrested on 53 warrants in 20 incidents with 24 convictions and was on probation at the time of the shootout, prosecutors said.
“Career criminals, like Connell, propel violence into our communities,” U.S. Attorney Bryan Stirl
