The 2024-25 season lasted 104 days after the winter road connecting Fort McMurray and Fort Chipewyan opened on Dec. 17 and closed March 31. It was the first time since the 2022-23 season that the winter road lasted longer than 100 days. Article content

Last year’s season, however, was much colder than this current winter. Weather is still a factor impacting the winter road once it opens. Mild weather in the 2023-24 season created temporary road closures and left potholes and rough patches.
