DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) - The Danville City Council unanimously approved the first major change to the zoning code since 2004 Tuesday night.

Several changes have been made to Danville’s zoning code, like the addition of transitional housing and changing some areas from suburban to urban, earning praise and concern from residents.

“It hurts me, because suburban does not mirror urban at all,” said Ann Scearce, Danville resident.

Neighbors Ann Scearce and Kathy Grantier have lived on Fox Hollow Drive for years, since before the area was annexed from Pittsylvania County into Danville in the ’90s.

“We chose to build in our neighborhood because it is a suburban neighborhood where we have more of a rural atmosphere. The lots are larger. It’s a peaceful environment,” added Scearce.
