LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - Weeks after being placed on administrative leave, the Chief of the Lynchburg Fire Department has retired, according to Director of Communications and Public Engagement Anna Bentson.
Chief Greg Wormser had worked in the department since 1995 and was named chief in 2018.
Wormser was recently placed on administrative leave , with the city announcing it was conducting an external and independent review of the department’s recruitment and retention practices, personnel policies and internal training protocols.
Deputy Chief Jonathan Wright has been serving as the Acting Chief of the department.
