Public school board scores have improved in nearly every category on Ontario’s latest rounds of standardized tests , but continue to lag behind provincial results .
The most significant gain at the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) was in Grade 6 writing, for which 80 per cent of students met the provincial standard — which is equivalent to an A or B grade — in 2024-25, up eight points from 72 per cent the previous year.
Provincially, 85 per cent of students met the benchmark on the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) tests that are given annually in math, reading and writing to all students in grades 3 and 6 across the province, as well as in math to Grade 9s.
