INDIANAPOLIS — Najia Sherzad Hoshmand lives, works and raises her kids in Indianapolis, like thousands of other Afghans who fled their country in 2021.

After the U.S. military left Afghanistan and the Taliban took over, she and her family stayed at Camp Atterbury before moving to Indianapolis permanently.

Despite approval to be here, the Trump Administration decided to re-review the immigration status of people from a list of 19 countries if their status was approved after Jan. 20, 2021, such as Hoshmand.

This change follows the shooting of two National Guard members in D.C. An Afghan man is the suspect .

"There's a huge concern in the community like any anyone, and it's a very common and very natural, but, we are hopeful," Hoshmand said.
