Siena University men’s lacrosse coach and Long Island native Liam Gleason died Wednesday from injuries sustained in a tragic accident at his home over the weekend, the school announced.
He was 41.
Gleason coached Siena the past seven seasons, led the program to a MAAC championship in May — the program’s first conference title in 11 years — and was a constant presence in the Capital Region’s lacrosse scene.
“A sudden, senseless loss carries a kind of pain that defies understanding,” Siena president Chuck Seifert said in a statement. “It’s hard to imagine anyone more universally loved and admired than Liam. Our community was blessed by Coach Gleason’s life.”
