DAYTON, Texas — A Buddhist monk injured in a crash during the Walk for Peace near Dayton underwent successful surgery Wednesday morning, according to an update shared by the Walk for Peace community. The announcement comes after two monks were hit when a truck hit a pilot vehicle escorting the group along Highway 90 at about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Organizers said the pilot vehicle was pushed into two monks participating in the 2,300-mile peace march from Fort Worth to Washington, D.C. One monk was flown to a Houston-area hospital, while another was taken by ambulance.
