NEW ALEXANDRIA, Pa. —

Many families in western Pennsylvania have yet to purchase a Christmas tree this season, leading to tree farms across the Commonwealth bracing for their most demanding time of the year.

“The line to buy the trees is out the door,” Sharon Adams, of Latrobe, said when talking about Flemings Tree Farm in Westmoreland County. Advertisement

Adams loves picking out a real tree.

“I love the smell of it,” she said. “We look for the fattest one. If I can put my arms around it, then that’s how wide it is. It brings back a lot of good memories. My daughters are now grown, and it’s just us at home, but it’s just nice to get that fresh tree.”

Preston Fleming has been seeing a lot of visitors since he opened his farm on Black Friday.
