Sunali Khatoon, a pregnant woman, and her 8-year-old son, Sabir, will be brought back to India on humanitarian grounds, the Centre has said. The mother-son duo was detained in Delhi and deported on suspicion that they were Bangladeshis.

The government will repatriate Sunali and her son without prejudice to its contentions on the merits, Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta told a bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi.

"On humanitarian grounds, Sunali Khatun and her son Sabir will be brought, on humanitarian grounds, here following the procedure without prejudice to our contentions on merits and our right to put them under surveillance," the SG was quoted as saying by Live Law.
