CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - West Virginia’s coal miners were honored at the State Capitol.

The West Virginia Coal Association and Greenbrier Smokeless Mining Company hosted the ceremony Wednesday.

Speakers included West Virginia’s Secretary of State, as well as the State Senate President.

Steve Lipscomb was the miner who died in Nicholas County when his crew hit unexpected water underground.

He is credited with saving the lives of his 17 crew members.
