A day after arriving in East Lansing and being introduced as Michigan State’s new football coach, Pat Fitzgerald has a fresh group of signees.

The Spartans signed 18 players, including a pair of walk-ons, to their 2026 recruiting class on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period that ends Friday.

Despite Jonathan Smith being fired on Sunday and Fitzgerald hired a day later, most of the previous commits stuck with their verbal pledge.

“My voice is a little raspy for a reason,” Fitzgerald said on Tuesday. “The amount of FaceTimes I was on last night, I think it stopped maybe at 11:30 when it was like, OK, I think this too late to be calling kids in their home, so I still have some more to get to today.”
