CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - The 2026 Advocates for Highway and Road Safety annual report shows a drastic need for policy improvements in Ohio to keep the roads safe.
According to the study, Ohio has seen 11,903 fatalities over the last decade, with the annual cost of crashes total clearing $12.1B.
According to the report, there is a direct correlation between a reduction of accidents and an increase in safety related policy. In total, they believe more than 500 policies need to be changed nationwide to ensure safer roads.
For Ohio specifically, they list the following changes that could lead to safer conditions:
• Primary Enforcement Front Seat Belt
• Primary Enforcement Rear Seat Belt Law
• All-Rider Motorcycle Helmet Law
• Rear Facing Through Age 2 or Older Law
• Booster Seat Law
