Lok Sabha passes Central Excise (Amendment) Bill

The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed the Central Excise (Amendment) Bill 2025, which increases excise duty on tobacco products and their manufacturing, after a detailed discussion.

Before the session began, Congress MP Sonia Gandhi, party president Mallikarjun Kharge and other opposition MPs staged a protest outside Parliament against the new labour laws. Several opposition MPs appeared wearing gas masks to highlight Delhi’s air pollution.
