With the new menstrual leave policy, 60 lakh working women in Karnataka will benefit
The Karnataka government has formally implemented a one-day paid period leave every month for women employed in the state, making them eligible for 12 paid leaves per year. The order applies to women aged 18 to 52 years.
The decision follows the approval of the Menstrual Leave Policy (MLP) 2025 on October 9. The benefit will be extended to women working in government services, private companies, and industrial sectors.
Policy introduced after legal challenge
The move came after the Bangalore Hotels Association filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court in November, objecting that menstrual leave had been announced for women in the private sector but not for women employed by the government.
