A Lakewood man, who admitted causing a head-on drunk-driving crash that killed a woman, was sentenced Wednesday to six years in state prison, authorities said.
Mordechai Berkowitz, 24, pleaded guilty in April to vehicular homicide and assault by auto, according to a statement from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
Berkowitz was driving east on South Lake Drive on July 22, 2022, when he crossed over the double yellow line and slammed head-on into an SUV at about 8:20 p.m., the office said.
The passenger in the SUV — Juana Lopez-Hernandez, 44, of Mexico — died of her injuries at a local hospital, officials said.
The driver, a 35-year-old Jackson woman, was seriously injured, treated at a local hospital and remains at home recovering, authorities said.
