West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress on Thursday suspended Bharatpur MLA Humayun Kabir after he sparked a controversy by announcing plans to build a ‘Babri Masjid’ in Murshidabad district.
Accusing him of attempting to “communalise” political issues with support from the BJP, senior TMC leader and Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim announced the decision, stating that the party had warned Kabir multiple times in the past.
“We have cautioned him thrice earlier. Still he is doing this. That is why we are suspending Humayun Kabir. The party will not have any relation with him,” Hakim said.
He added that the party was alarmed after Kabir recently claimed he would “build the Babri Masjid,” a statement Hakim described as provocative and unnecessary. “We noticed that one of our MLAs from Murshidaba
