Reliance Jio users travelling on India’s highways will soon start receiving real-time safety alerts on their phones, thanks to a new partnership between the telecom operator and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Both sides have signed an MoU to roll out a telecom-based warning system aimed at improving road safety for millions of 4G and 5G users. Under this initiative, travellers approaching hazardous spots on National Highways such as accident-prone stretches, fog-heavy sections, cattle-crossing zones, or sudden diversions, will get alerts directly on their phones. These warnings will be delivered through SMS, WhatsApp and high-priority voice calls, ensuring they reach users even in areas with patchy data connectivity.
