NASHVILLE, Tennessee — Steve Cropper, a hugely influential guitarist who played with Booker T. and the MGs and co-wrote some of rock’s most enduring hits, has died at the age of 84.
Variety reports that Cropper’s son, Cameron, confirmed his father’s death Wednesday. A cause of death was not released but Cropper reportedly was in a rehabilitation facility after a recent fall.
“He’s such a good human,” said longtime associate Eddie Gore, who visited Cropper at the rehab facility Tuesday. “We were blessed to have him, for sure.”
According to the Guardian , Cropper likely was best-known for his work with Booker T & the MGs. He co-wrote the group’s beloved hit “Green Onions.”
He also co-wrote megahits “(Sittin’ on) the Dock of the Bay” and “In the Midnight Hour.”
