Police in Bergen County are warning residents after a person was bitten by a fox.

In a social media post shortly before 7 p.m. on Tuesday, the Montvale Police Department said it had taken a report of a resident bitten by a fox.

The fox was last seen in the northeast corner of the town, but may travel, police said.

The department did not provide additional details about the incident.

The borough of Montvale borders the New York State line, just south of Pearl River, New York.

Police are reminding residents to keep their distance from foxes and to closely watch children and pets.

Several coyote attacks in the area caused injuries to both humans and animals earlier this fall.
