FAIRHAVEN — Following the graduation of six offensive linemen from its 2024 Division 6 state finalist team, the Fairhaven High football team had some holes to fill.
Senior Giovanni Lopez unselfishly made the move from fullback to left tackle this year and helped solidify the Blue Devils up front as a first-year starter in a position he had never played before.
“We saw we were a lineman short and we asked a bunch of kids and his hand went up first,” recalled Fairhaven coach Derek Almeida. “He said, ‘Coach, I just want to play.’ He went there and he’s done a great job.”
Lopez is one of three ‘unsung heroes’ Almeida singled out in the days leading up to Fairhaven's Div. 6 Super Bowl game against Norwell at Gillette Stadium on Nov. 4.
Almeida also praised seniors Ben Cormier and Luke C
