A probe has been ordered after a class 4 student of a state-run residential school hostel was found chained by the leg in Nilagiri block of Odisha’s Balasore district.

The incident triggered outrage after a video came to light, purportedly showing the boy sitting on his hostel bed while one of his legs is tied to it with an iron shackle. The incident took place at the government UP school, Begunia, in Balasore district.

School authorities claimed the boy was chained to prevent him from frequently fleeing from the hostel to his home without permission. The school headmaster claimed the parents were aware of the incident.
